A Delightful Day In Round Top, Texas

We recently enjoyed a wonderful day exploring the charming town of Round Top, Texas, a destination known for its unique blend of small-town hospitality, shopping, art, and culture.

Our day began with a visit to Junk Gypsy, one of Round Top’s most iconic destinations. Filled with vintage treasures, colorful décor, and creative inspiration, it perfectly captures the free-spirited charm that has made Round Top famous.

From there, we strolled through the town square, browsing local shops and enjoying the relaxed pace of life that makes this community so inviting. One of the highlights of our visit was lunch at Boone & Company, a delightful restaurant offering a warm atmosphere and delicious food. It was the perfect place to pause, relax, and enjoy the simple pleasure of a meal shared with family and friends.

The highlight of our day, however, was visiting the Round Top Festival Institute, often referred to as Festival Hill. Located on beautifully landscaped grounds just outside town, Festival Hill is one of Texas’ hidden cultural treasures. The campus features stunning architecture, peaceful gardens, fountains, and scenic views that invite visitors to slow down and appreciate both beauty and artistry.

During the summer months, Festival Hill comes alive with the Round Top Music Festival. From June through July, talented young musicians from around the world gather for an intensive music academy where they study under distinguished faculty members and perform throughout the season. Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy exceptional classical music concerts each week, featuring chamber ensembles, soloists, and full orchestral performances.

The quality of the performances is remarkable. It is a rare opportunity to experience world-class classical music in the peaceful setting of rural Texas. Whether you are a lifelong music enthusiast or simply curious to experience something new, the summer concert series is well worth attending.

Round Top offers much more than antiques and shopping. It is a place where creativity, hospitality, beauty, and culture come together in a uniquely Texan way. From the lively atmosphere of Junk Gypsy to the peaceful grounds of Festival Hill, our visit was a refreshing reminder that some of life’s richest experiences are often found in the most unexpected places.

If you are looking for a memorable day trip from Houston, Round Top is a destination well worth exploring.  You can find out more about the wonderful concerts at the Round Top Festival Institute at Festivalhill.org.
